The University and College Union (UCU) represents staff who work in the post-16 education section as lecturers, trainers, researchers, managers, administrators, computer staff, librarians and postgraduates in universities, colleges, prisons, adult education and training organisations across the UK. Contrary to popular public perception and media stereotypes, this sector is one of the most casualised in the UK — and this means that MANY who work within it are on very precarious conditions. These issues are industrial but also intersect strongly with equality issues.
The Anti-Casualisation Committee (ACC) is comprised of elected members who are employed on casualised contracts, or have been so within the past 2 years. We represent UCU fixed-term and hourly paid staff and fight the abuse of casual contracts throughout tertiary education. We believe in secure work for all staff.
